October 8, So maybe that explained the dark circles beneath my fingernails Seeking clues, I tipped my head upwards to take in the crescent moon then stamped bare feet against bent and splintered grass blades.

The strands caught against my toes, clinging as if coated with glue I leapt sideways, the harsh tang of copper following me away from the trampled circle of earth. There has to be a rational explanation for all of this. Closing my gaping mouth and forcing air to flow more naturally through flaring nostrils, I peered out at the darkened landscape in which I found myself. I was perched atop a rounded knoll, encircled on four sides by tree silhouettes while the moon shone down through a gap in the canopy to illuminate the spot where I now stood So I was dreaming.

I exhaled in relief, pinching my forearm. Unfortunately, the sharp burst of pain failed to wake me back up. Change the rules, change the game To that end, I yanked at the source of my magic, the glow of a sword arcing through the air between me and my enemy. And in instant response, lightning bugs rose in a wave of green-hued reaction, their sheer numbers proving that this was not memory but rather dream. Instead, forest stretched out around me, lacking streetlights, porch lights, even the barest hint of asphalt and diesel fumes to pinpoint a nearby road.

Where was I? And why had I moved this frequently remembered battle from the abandoned theater in which it had actually occurred to an idyllic spot lifted from a fairy tale? All of these thoughts flooded my neurons in the time it took for the lightning bugs to wink out and return the scene to near darkness. Meanwhile, as if my enemy had been waiting for the return of my attention, cloaked arms rose in a flicker of black on black.

Now I could see my opponent easily as he—she? Then the glowing star ball shifted, stretched The magic burned. Cut through my silk kimono and almost—but not quite—prevented me from noticing how dramatically this nightmare had gone off the rails of its usual script. Since when was there a lasso involved in our battle?

Since when did I wear kimonos? Since when did the anonymous being I fought against wield magic I had yet to understand? The words had been a parry, meant only to win me another moment in which to think. Instead, lasso pressure on my stomach eased as a hooded head cocked to one side in mimicry of my own earlier gesture. Open navigation menu. Close suggestions Search Search. User Settings. Easterling's other works. It's a great ride! Apr 26, Krista rated it liked it Shelves: romance , paranormal. I was a tad bit annoyed that the first book in this trilogy did not end where I thought it should have. Luckily, book 2 in this trilogy series?

If I have one major criticism of these two books it's that the author didn't always provide information that would have helped better anchor me in the story she was trying to tell. I wasn't sure if she was trying to be clever or if she just wasn't sure of the reasons herself, but it I was a tad bit annoyed that the first book in this trilogy did not end where I thought it should have.

I wasn't sure if she was trying to be clever or if she just wasn't sure of the reasons herself, but it took much too long for her provide ample exposition of the kitsune nature. And, frankly, I'm still not sure why there's out-and-out animosity between werewolves and kitsunes. It seemed Jun 17, Deb Barringer rated it it was amazing Shelves: arc-s.

This book was just as thrilling as the first! Mai and Kira have moved in with the werewolves, and are gradually learning what it means to be part of a pack. Meanwhile, Kira is slowly fading away due to the loss of her star ball. The Master is still at large, and pulling strings whenever possible. Mai's mother has made an appearance, and the jury is out on whether that is helpful or potentially harmful.

The race is on to discover the master, and disarm him before more damage can be done. The storyline remains fast-paced, filled with, magic, danger, intrigue and manipulations. The characters are vast, but the main ones are well developed and engaging. I can't wait to see what book three brings! Oct 08, Laure rated it it was amazing. I reviewed book 3, Fox Blood, a month ago but just realised that I haven't reviewed this one, book 2. Ooops to me!! Mai is still trying to care for her younger sister, Kira. They are kitsunes were-foxes hanging out with a small pack of were-wolves led by Gunner. Something is wrong with Kira and Mai is searching for a reason and a cure while trying not to get attacked by other were-wolves. AND then there's the Master - a mystery related to Mai's mother. I really enjoy Aimee's books and writing I reviewed book 3, Fox Blood, a month ago but just realised that I haven't reviewed this one, book 2.

This tale read really well and made flying through it a breeze. I loved the exposure this tale gave to pack politics as well as the havoc unforeseen influences had on them. This is the second book in the Moon Marked series and it picks up pretty much where the first book ends. There is plenty of action, suspense, drama and even romance surrounding Mai and Kira. I really want to see what is next for the girls because of the ending of this book.

Their lives seem to be torn apart and imperiled when they unexpectedly become embroiled in the competition for pack leadership of the local werewolf clan.

Apr 17, Dominique Devaney rated it liked it. I really enjoyed the take on the Kitsunai and adding something different to the traditional werewolf spin but it's shallow. There is a lot missing in the character development that would make you want to fall into the book. The author skips details at critical junctures and then over does it in other areas.

I am downloading book 3 now because I do like the overall story and it's a quick read but would like more umpf! Jun 26, Ryan rated it liked it. This book two picks up right where book 1 left off, except now the girls are trying to integrate into the wolf pack, but maintain their separate peace. You get much more romance and nakededness no sex, just violence. There are too many parts that feels like vampires instead of Kitsune and Werewolves. Oct 09, Lynda rated it it was amazing.

The second book is as good as the first as we follow Mai misadventures as she tries to keep her younger sister out of foster care. Living a world of magic isn't new to Mai, but living with wolves is. She also learns what boundaries she will cross to protect what she loves. This fast moving suspenseful tale will keep you reading. I'm looking forward to the next book.
